Larger than the Green Kingfisher, but smaller than the Ringed Kingfisher. Note unspotted wings and large bill compared to size.

A small kingfisher. Note spots on wing and proportionately smaller bill compared to larger Amazon Kingfisher.

  Similar in size to the medium-sized Amazon Kingfisher. Similar in color to the American Pygmy Kingfisher. The Green-and-rufous Kingfisher prefers shadowy areas, but once found is less timid than other kingfishers.
