Ashy-throated Chlorospingus (Chlorospingus canigularis)
   


Uncommon, and usually high and difficult to see. Note lack of white mark behind the eye that is present in almost all races of very similar Common Chlorospingus. Head grey in South America, but olive in Central America. Note yellow chest band, dark or red eyes, and light-colored belly.

  The nigriceps subspecies has a black head and does not have a white spot behind the eye.

Common at mid elevations (1200-2400m). Note differences with white spot behind eye, and shades of color in head and throat across large range.

Also called Short-billed Bush Tanager or Chlorospingus. Similar to Yellow-throated Chlorospingus, but central part of throat is white. Note white eye.

Typical Chlorospingus (formerly Bush Tanager). Joins mixed flocks. Birds closer to Ecuador have red eyes, while birds in Colombia have light eye.
