Until recently called Tawny-crowned Pygmy Tyrant. Found in very arid habitats. The west Ecuador and Peru subspecies was split off as the Fulvous-faced Scrub Tyrant.

Once called Rufous-sided Pygmy Tyrant. Primarily found in the 'cerrado' ecosystem in Brazil, but also recorded in a few spots in the Amazon.
