Genus: Sclerurus (5 species, 7 worldwide)

Sclerurus is a genus of 'ovenbirds' (family Furnariidae) which as the name suggests stay on the forest floor and look under leaves, and are generally difficult to see well.

Split from the Tawny-throated Leaftosser in Central America, but visually virtually identical.
Perhaps starting a tunnel nest in a bank, which can be 50 cm. long (HBW).

Note that the ceara subspecies lacks the throat streaking of the nominate subspecies, is brighter rufous overall, and has a somewhat different song (Athanas).
