Genus: Xenops (4 species, 5 worldwide)

Genus Xenops are small woodcreeper-like birds with upturned bills. Generally seen moving along trunks and dry branches where they chisel for insects in decaying wood.

A small bird that pecks at tree trunks and branches is usually found at lower altitudes.

In 2023 split from the Plain Xenops and only found in the Atlantic rainforest.

Streaked Xenops

Found at higher altitudes than Plain Xenops in most parts of its range, but at low altitudes in Ecuador and Brazil.
