Birds of Costa Rica

    PASSERIFORMES: Formicariidae (Antthrushes)  
Genus: Formicarius (3 species, 6 worldwide)

Genus Formicarius, Antthrushes, are secretive small to medium-sized insect-eating ground birds of tropical forests, and have a characteristic tail-raised shape.

  Amazon races have a brown head.

May be split one day; there are two different songs (generally Amazon and non-Amazon), and a lot of variation in color. Amazon races are generally less rufous.
