A widespread non-migratory warbler. Note thick white brow in South American races. May be split soon (Yellow-crowned in Colombia,Venezuela and Stripe-crowned in Panama/Costa Rica in the HBW taxonomy).

Seen up to about 1000m. The Rufous-capped Warbler has a light-grey belly and nape in Mexico. The races south of Mexico are sometimes called the Chestnut-capped Warbler.
