Found in tall reeds in wetlands at high altitude, up to the paramo, and declining in numbers. Compare to more common Sedge Wren, which is more flexible with habitat.

The Grass Wren was split from the North American Sedge Wren. More splits are probably coming.

The Sedge Wren now just includes birds in North America and northeast Mexico. The Grass Wren includes tropical species, and will probably be split further.
