Smallest violetear. Less shiny than Sparkling Violetear, and missing violet chest band. Split with Mexican Violetear from Green Violetear.

Split from the Green Violetear (now called Lesser Violetear) and found from Nicaragua northward. The Mexican Violetear has a blue chest like the larger Sparkling Violetear found in South America. Male and female similar. Wanders north to many parts of the United States.
