Split with the Grey-tailed Mountaingem. The White-throated is mostly in Panama and the male has a dark blue tail (not seen well here).

Split from the White-throated Mountaingem. The Grey-tailed is mostly in Costa Rica, while the White-throated is in Panama. The male has a grey (and not dark blue) tail. Female very similar to Purple-throated Mountaingem, but that species has a greener tail.
