(se Russia), Hokkaido to c Honshu (n, c Japan), n Korean Pen., in s through Iberian Pen., Morocco to Tun Devil's Fork SP, South Carolina, United States Extracts seeds from pine cones with curved bill. Female is olive yellow.

Crossbills have bills where the upper and lower mandible cross each other. Their bills are used to extract seeds from pine cones.
