Mitu is one of three genus of Curassow, the largest 'gamebird' in tropical America (80 cm.). Mitu curassow do not have knobbed bills, nor do they have a horn extending above the bill. Curassows move at all levels of the forest, eating insects and fruit. |
Five birds were saved when the remaining forest in their isolated range was cut down. Now there are plans to breed these birds in captivity and one day release them. Note thin red bill. |
Unlike many species of curassow, the male and female Salvin's Curassow are virtually identical. |
