Split from the Hepatic Tanager, a non-migratory version of the Summer Tanager. Look for a notch in the bill and a slightly darker and less flesh-colored bill than the Summer Tanager. |
Northern migrant. Females have darker wings than the similar Summer Tanager. The Scarlet Tanager migrates to south Peru, further south than most. Additional photo. A different type of immature male with dark black wings and a yellow body. |
