Perhaps the most common tanager in the Amazon. Seen up to 1500m on the eastern Andean slope, and found in all types of habitat usually in pairs. |

A Colombian endemic species sometimes considered conspecific with the Lemon-rumped Tanager. Variation in color especially in the female may be because of hybridization. A male hybrid lemon/flame. Additional photo. |

Very similar to the Crimson-backed Tanager found further north. The male is bright red with a silver tanager bill, but has a black belly. Female dull reddish. Restricted to the Mayo and Huallaga valleys. |

In IOC 9.1 Passerini's Tanager and Cherrie's Tanager were merged back into the Scarlet-rumped Tanager. Cherrie's females are more colorful, but males are similar. Bathing in ashes. |
