Small and compact with short bill and olive-yellow wings (HBW). Note white band on underside of tail of male. Female less yellow and somewhat streaked. |
The male is similar to the Saffron Finch, but the female is not streaked. |
Common even in urban areas. Expanding range with deforestation. Immatures males often have only a yellow chest band, making then look like a different species. |

Male uniformly yellow. Female mostly grey perhaps with pale yellow in front. Found in the 'monte' mid-elevation scrub ecosystem, and yellower than the Greater Yellow Finch found at higher altitudes. |
