Found in bamboo-laden Andean cloudforest from Venezuela to Bolivia (Athanas). The most widespread treehunter, but not the easiest to see.

Largish treehunter most similar to Flammulated Treehunter. Also called Rufous-backed Treehunter and Buff-throated Treehunter.

Generally seen at lower altitude than the Striped or Flammulated Treehunter, from 1500m-2000m, and unstreaked front makes identification easy. Seen feeding at bromeliads.
