Recently split from the Slender-footed Tyrannulet. The Guianan has a whiter throat, and vocal and DNA differences. It also has a different shape (HBW). Alt. photo |
Very similar to Golden-faced Tyrannulet. Vocal and DNA differences. Usually has a lighter eye, but apparently this is not guaranteed. |

Normally common. |

Considered the same species as the Peruvian Tyrannulet by HBW. |
An amazing nest-builder. Note light colored eye. The Guianan Tyrannulet in northeast Brazil and the Guyanas was recently split from this species. At large nest. |
Once called the Venezuelan Tyrannulet, but those in the Santa Marta and Perija mountain ranges are now called Specious Tyrannulet or Spectacled Tyrannulet. Found at higher altitudes than other Zimmerius in its range (Golden-faced Tyrannulet and Coopmans's Tyrannulet). |
Similar to, and split from the Golden-faced Tyrannulet, but even smaller. In the range of the Spectacled Tyrannulet, which includes Santa Marta and Perija, Coopman's is found at lower altitudes. |
Split from the Paltry Tyrannulet found further north mainly because of smaller size and vocal differences. |
Once called the Paltry Tyrannulet. Note lack of wing bars compared to related species. |

Described in 2001. Known from two locations, the white sand forest near Iquitos, and at the base of the Andes (see map) (Athanas). |
