Note thin pale brow, slightly smaller size, possibly light-colored iris, and smaller thinner bill, when in range of the much rarer White-tailed Shrike-Tyrant. Both have white tails. Found in open areas at high elevations.

Austral migrant from Patagonian lowlands as far north as Bolivia and Paraguay. Plain greyish brown, lighter on the bottom.
