Genus Amazona, Amazon Parrots, are large stocky mostly green parrots with broad wings and short tails. They travel in noisy flocks.

The race from Mexico to Nicaragua has a yellow cheek. A tiny bit thinner, smaller than most Amazon parrots.

Similar to Mealy Amazon but note white skin at base of bill and white eye-ring, red on side of tail, and distinctive call. A Brazilian endemoic recenly (2021) recorded in Mitu, Colombia.

Found at high altitudes in the Andes, unlike most genus Amazon parrots that are found only in lowlands.
