Puffs at base of legs sometimes small or not noticeable. White on belly variable (related to sex or subspecies?). Often misidentified.

Found inside the forest, and similar to the [Greenish Puffleg], but less green and more grey/drab. Male and female similar, but male is dark grey in front, while female is lighter (hoary). Note rufous rump and head can be hard too see in the field.
Flashed to bring out colors.
