Male's tail can be more than twice the length of the body, but it is often shorter. A bit smaller than Lyre-tailed Nightjar, and often found at higher altitudes (2500m). Uniformly mottled dark brown, and has no white throat or rufous collar on back of neck as do many nightjars. But note partial buff collar around front of neck.
