Male has a tail up to three times the length of the body, but it is often shorter. Note rufous collar around back of neck on male and female. Note white tip to tail compared to Swallow-tailed Nightjar. Often seen in the day on rocky cliffs.

Male's tail can be more than twice the length of the body, but it is often shorter. A bit smaller than Lyre-tailed Nightjar, and often found at higher altitudes (2500m). Uniformly mottled dark brown, and has no white throat or rufous collar on back of neck as do many nightjars. But note partial buff collar around front of neck.
