Split from the Hepatic Tanager, a non-migratory version of the Summer Tanager. Look for a notch in the bill and a slightly darker and less flesh-colored bill than the Summer Tanager.

Northern migrant. Females have darker wings than the similar Summer Tanager. The Scarlet Tanager migrates to south Peru, further south than most.

Northern migrant. The immature male is yellow with blotches of red. Female similar to Scarlet Tanager but with lighter yellower wings.
