Split from the Scarlet-fronted Parakeet, which is found in Colombia and Venezuela, and is similarly green with red forehead. Note no red touching eye, and no large white area around eye (see Mitred Parakeet).

Compare to Cordilleran Parakeet. Note white around eye and red blotches in face. Found in arid Andean areas up to 4000m.
