This species has a black throat in the southern part of its range. In the northern part of its range it looks very similar to the mostly Colombian Scrub Tanager, but is found at lower altitudes and has a slightly less defined crown and has slightly different color shades with buff sides and back. | ||||||
A small relatively common tanager sometimes seen outside of the forest. Usually seen in pairs. | ||||||
